The Differences between Buddhism and Hinduism
Thesis: As two of the worlds oldest and most established religions, Hinduism and Buddhism have their similarities and differences.
I. Both religions are practiced in South East Asia and have influenced each other.
A. Buddhism came from Hinduism.
B. Buddhism has overshadowed Hinduism.
C. They've both developed from simple faiths to more complex faiths.
II. Hinduism dates back 5,000 years ago.
A.It is the central belief that there is an existence of a cosmic or natural order of a balanced way of living physically, socially, ethically, and spiritually.
B. It consists of thousands of different religous groups that have evolved in India since 1500 BCE.
C. It consists of 837 million followers which is 13% of the world's population.

H. They also strongly believed to be Hindu, your parents must be Hindus and you must be born in India.
III. Buddhism was created over 3 centuries ago.
A. Buddhism is the thoughts, practices, institutions, and values over the centuries that have "condensed around the name of the Buddha."
1) Buddhism is what Buddhist men and women have done
2) They have practiced faith, built cities, and wrote poems.
B. Buddhism has been labeled a religion, philosophy, civilization, and culture.
C. It is an extremely adaptive religion and has always been affected by its surroundings.
D. It is based on principle all exterior things are to be ignored.
E. Faith is based on Buddha, who was Sidhartha Guatama, the prince of the Sakya tribe in approximately 566 B.C.
F. After his death 500 monks came together and decided on principles for the Buddhist faith.
IV. Buddhism and Hinduism had a few differences in there basic principle of faith.
A. In certain areas Buddhism overshadowed Hinduism.
1) It occured in Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, and South East Asia.
B. Hinduism strongly believed in the Caste system, an elaborate system of ranking groups of people by there ocupation and ritual purity.
C. The Buddhists didn't agree with it and completely rejected Caste, image worship, animal sacrifice, and priestly domination.
D. Hindus are starting to disagree with the Caste system and certain areas are banning it.
E. Buddhism and Hinduism both differ from Christianity and Islamic Faiths.
1) Buddhism is an adaptive religion unlike Christianity and Islam.
2)Hinduism doesn't have a single founder, specific theological system, single system of morality, or central religous organization also unlike Christianity and other Western religions.
V. Through all there differences, Buddhism and Hinduism are to very different cultures that influence each others religions.
A. They are both still strongly practiced and changing.
