Week 1 Individual
The organizational structure of a retail store will vary by the size and type of the business. Most tasks involved with operating a retail business will be the same. However, small or independent retail stores may combine many sectors together under one division, while larger stores create various divisions for each particular function along with many layers of management. For example, the small specialty shop may have all of its employees under one category called Store Operations. A large department store may have a complete staff consisting of a manager, assistant manager and sales associates for its Sporting Goods department, Home and Garden, Bed and Bath, and each additional department.

As the store grows and the retail business evolves, the dynamics of the organization's structure will change too. Therefore it is paramount to redesign the store's organizational chart to support the decision-making, collaboration and leadership capabilities that are essential during and after a growth period.
When organizing an internet structure, it’s simple. The main thing you need is a web designer and customer service representatives. Other than that, the operation is a lot simpler than your average, normal retail store. The hard thing is updating your site as well as products as much as possible. You have to understand that things change every month and your site needs to as well. Marketing is everything on a website, so you need to have key components to fulfill this make or break situation.
One challenge retailers may face with the online retailer would be marketing. I say this because it’s hard to get a website up and running, and after you do that, you then must get customers to purchase online. How do they know you’re there? That’s the question you need to ask yourself. As well as when they get there, how are you going to make them feel safe and order from your site? Customer service is very important, and to have great customer service means long-term customers on your site.
One challenge a traditional retailer may face is probably customer service. That’s the biggest on-going issue with consumers today. You lose valuable customers when you don’t treat customers as good as the next company. With that being said, proper training of employees is needed for staff and the company so that you can be labeled as a company with a good name.
