What is Expectancy Theory of Motivation?
“Expectancy theory is a motivation based on the idea that work efforts is directed toward behaviors that people believe will lead to desired outcome” (McShane, page 132). Expectancy (Effort to Performance), Instrumentality (Performance to outcome) and Valence (reward/ outcome) are three key elements in expectancy theory, work together and range of probability is between 0 to 1 and -1 to +1(valance) and if any of the element is missing motivation become zero.
