1.) Using expectancy Theory, explain the process by which Fran Flood motivates the workers at Clear one?

The expectancy theory was proposed by Victor Vroom of Yale School of Management in 1964. Vroom stresses and focuses on outcomes, and not on needs unlike Maslow and Herzberg. The theory states that the intensity of a tendency to perform in a particular manner is dependent on the intensity of an expectation that the performance will be followed by a definite outcome and on the appeal of the outcome to the individual.

Each year Flood invents a new marketing theme and she used popular movie names which had some kind of motivational quote in the name like The matrix , Mission possible and also she used to do some wacky stunts to pump up the enthusiasm of the workers like she used to leave voice message which begins like Your mission and should you choose to accept it or wear a black trench coat and sun glasses and she used different cheeky tricks like this to keep the employees focus and motivated towards their goals. And according to her all employees likes rewards and even small reward or a recognition make an individual very happy and motivates them to achieve more and more as behind every effort there is a reward. And she had this standard core statement which h said “At Gentner we believe that stamina, courage , and even a little lunacy to stay ahead in the pack”.
Flood also use to have a lot of meeting and sharing view with all her employees she was always one step ahead in giving some pep talk to her workers like she gives an e.g. of a boat where a set of people are rowing the boat and the other set are just siting without doing nothing and asks what’s the outcome of this activity and she tells people who sit without doing anything are like cargo and a boat do not need cargo so better keep doing something so that the company gets you contribution in one or the other way.

2) If you worked for Flood, would you be motivated by her? Why or why not?
I would say yes I would be motivated but at the same time there is a no added to that too because when we see the way Flood started to put things together after the retirement of Russell Gentner the way Flood took it forward was very good she actually found out the loop holes and tried to fix them and firstly she put the whole system in place and organized in a very systematic way and also focused on its product and she tried to bring out the best out of every team she had her style of methods which she used to motivate all different departments and keep them on toe she used both positive and negative way of motivational method . Negative motivation is rooted on fear, while positive Motivation is rooted in service.
When the employees were balked about the changes they were asked to resign and then to replace the lost talent they had to come up with stock options where the employees knew that there is always a chance of management letting them go if they go against them nor don’t listen at the same they also had the opportunity to work hard and get benefits of all the stock options what they got and then she had come up with new plans which was like naming the famous movie name, s and wacky stunts to pump up the enthusiasm but at the same time she used to call up and leave voice msg which is a indirect way of pushing things too hard on her employees.
