Times are forever changing, the society we live in has evolved in many ways. We now live in a generation where computers and smartphones have taken a toll on the way we now communicate. Let’s look at what we now call online dating. Then, you could potentially meet your significant other in passing out at a club, play, or a bar. You exchange phone numbers and text message, go on a few dates and poof you are in a relationship. However, more and more people are losing interest in going out to those places, wasting money and time to come up empty handed, and this could be the reasoning for online searching.
Online dating could be beneficial in a sense that all suitors are tailored to your needs and personality. According to (, 2013) “Their behavioral matchmaking will set you up. They have over 25 million who date smarter using their unique technology”. With more and more sites becoming available and more people signing up, it is a quick fast way to meet your matches. You get to know a person through chatting, emailing discussing all aspects of things a person can to get a sense of whether you want to take the next step and meet. Unlike traditional dating, if you realize that you and the matches are incompatible, with one click that person is taken out of your list and it’s on to the next person. If that was traditional dating, a person has wasted time going on numerous dates just to avoid that person. The downfall of being able to choose from hundreds is the person that catches your eye has a hundred possibilities also.
Online dating allows people to learn better communication skills. In In the beginning that is the only form of contact you may have with the person. Communication is often a main issue in relationships. “Many times we as people use our bodies as communication and it could be taken the wrong way, hand motions and tone of voice could cause many issues when in a relationship” (Sorgen, 2012). It also allows a person to be in control of a situation until the perfect comfort level is established. Again, if we compare it to traditional dating and not being able to look a person in the eyes or examine body language, you cannot get a real sense of emotions. Words are word, but actions speak volumes.
As great as online dating seems, there are a lot of issues that could arise. It is an easy and quick way to reach millions, but it also is a way for a person to be misinformed. Having numerous people from which to choose, online dating sites could cause a person to be “catfished”. This is a term that means the person behind the computer is not exactly who...
