We live in a society that is technological. Taking an online class is a great way for a student to expand their knowledge on technology. They would be using chat rooms, video conferencing and other programs that they would not normally be introduced to in the regular classroom. Using these programs, online prepares people for the business world. A disadvantage of taking online classes is that access to the internet is necessary. This would be an extra cost if the equipment is needed. It could be an inconvenience for a person to go somewhere that the equipment was readily available.
Although, some people say that online classes will take the place of teachers, this will never be true. Teachers are truly valuable to students; an online classroom could never take the place of a real teacher. Some people believe a disadvantage of taking online courses is that students cannot have access to a faculty member. The fact is many online courses offer a greater access to faculty. Students that are shy and may not talk in class are able to ask questions online without facing the instructor, the internet makes it possible for the student to ask questions and receive the answers back almost immediately.
The education received from an online class or a traditional class is going to be the same information. You need be self –motivated to work on assignments to meet deadlines for an online class. There is also going to be more reading since the lecture aspect is not there. After assignments are completed, they would be emailed to the instructor for grading. To complete discussion the instructor might post questions in the forums to be answered for participation. Next, online tests are another necessity. Finally, taking online classes also requires students to be more ethical, because there’s greater temptation to cheat.
Although some people like to take traditional classes, online classes are sometimes just a better fit for people that have busy schedules, have access to technology, and want to better their education.
