Network Management Team Job Aid
Week Two: Individual
Choosing a network management protocol
There are several network management protocols both for in-band and out-band management systems. To identify the best or suitable protocol for an organization it is important to consider factors like;
1. Type of communication
2. Ease of using
3. System configuration
The type of communication and network configuration to large extent determines the type of protocol to use for network management. The network architecture may be configured with incompatible devices with some protocols. ...view middle of the document...
For instance, SMTP will allow control messages to be propagated in the same stream as that of the actual sent message.
Software include; SecureLinx SLC8, Cisco 2511 and Avocent Cyclades server tool.
The network’s main traffic will be transmitted in a different connection from that of the control data (Gonçalves, P., Oliveira, J., & Aguiar, R., 2012).
How to apply principles of network management
Network management strategies are aimed to provide five levels of network management; fault management, security management, configuration management, accounting management and performance management. The strategies can be applied by ensuring all the devices to be controlled are all connected with appropriate protocols. The network should also have roles set and access policies defined for effective implementation of the strategies. This may affect the organization by having new devices software, additional access level and new protocols for communication. To relate to these changes, the IT should be trained and conduct user training s as to equip the network user with essential skills of managing...
