Module 6 Assignment
Part 1: Answer the Module Review Questions listed below. These questions were chosen to demonstrate your understanding and help you assess your progress.
1. Most businesses should engage in e-commerce on the Internet. Do you agree or disagree with this statement? Explain your position.
I disagree with this statement. The internet is a wonderful place for doing business but it is not for everyone or for all types of business and I would not be comfortable saying most businesses should engage in e-commerce. There is no 100% guaranteed way to keep your personal information secure and even with some laws in place that govern things like health information or personal ...view middle of the document...
3. If you were starting an e-commerce Web store, which of the business requirements summarized in Figure 9.13 would you primarily do yourself, and which would you outsource to a Web development or hosting company? Why?
I would outsource the steps under the build heading. Web design tools, templates, and design services are best done by a professional for the best chance at success. Your site needs to pop out at customers over other pages and this is best accomplished by someone who does this for a living. Web site hosting I would also outsource because of the cost of equipment and the need for 24 hour a day monitoring. I would outsource everything involving advertising. There are people out there who specialize in getting a website to list first in a search and make it more visible to users, but this takes a lot of time and would be difficult to do in house unless someone was hired to do just that.
Every part of the serve, transacts, and support headings I would do. It is important to have a presence in the transactions for security and liability. As a consumer nothing is more aggravating than going to a company’s support and being transferred to someone who doesn’t work for the company so I think it would be important to provide my own support. Managing the site and account systems should be done in house for security reasons.
4. Are the form and use of information and decision support systems for managers and has the growth of self-directed teams to manage work in organizations changed the need for strategic, tactical, and operational decision making in business?
The form and use of information has changed and the growth of self directed teams has increased. This doesn’t impact the strategic decision making much which looks at long term goals or ideas for the company overall which won’t change much. The tactical decisions however could be impacted. As each issue comes up the type of information that can be found and the way it is found can change how an issue is approached. Operational decisions which are a day to day operation which are typically administrative would be changed by the number of self directed teams. With little to no direct supervision operational decisions have less daily impact on some groups of employees but may remain unchanged for others (Developing people through, n.d.).
5. In what ways does using an electronic spreadsheet package provide you with the capabilities of a decision support system?
A decision support system is an application that analyzes data and allows users to make decision based on the information collected. An electronic spreadsheet package has the ability to allow a user to enter data and analyze or sort it in a way that shows the user what if scenarios. This gives the spreadsheet information that helps in decision making and the capability of decision support.
