Methods of Evangelism
Evangelistic Method #1: Four Spiritual Laws
The four spiritual laws are an “intellectual” method. These laws are a guide to what you need to do to accept Christ as your Lord and savior. These spiritual laws help us manage and strengthen our relationship with God. The first spiritual law is “God loves you and offers a wonderful plan for your life” (Campus Crusade for Christ, 2007). The second spiritual law says that “Man is sinful and separated from God. Therefore, he cannot know and experience God's love and plan for his life” (Campus Crusade for Christ, 2007). The third spiritual law is “Jesus Christ is ...view middle of the document...
Isaiah 64:6 says “We are all infected and impure with sin. When we display our righteous deeds, they are nothing but filthy rags. Like autumn leaves, we wither and fall, and our sins sweep us away like the wind” (NLT). This verse is direct and leaves no room for miss interpretation. It is very clear that no one will enter His kingdom by his good deeds alone. “While salvation often begins with curiosity, it takes more than curiosity in Jesus to experience true conversion. It takes experiencing the conviction of the Holy Spirit as He convinces us of our sin, our lack of true righteousness, and the resulting judgment” (Early and Wheeler, 2010).
Evangelistic Method #2: Lifestyle Evangelism
Lifestyle evangelism is a “relational” method of evangelism. Lifestyle evangelism can be characterized as an evangelism tactic that focuses on living a righteous, engaging life amongst nonbelievers with the purpose of attracting people to the magnitude of Jesus Christ. Lifestyle Evangelism is a public announcement to verbally announce your affirmation of the bible. Personal relationships create an encouraging environment for the invitation to Christ to be extended (Houdmann, 2014). With this method a nonbeliever feels acceptance and a sense of belonging before making a life altering decision. An individual might be more willing to give you a chance to share your faith after you are able to demonstrate that in your own life has been altered and it becomes proof that your words are truthful and life altering.
An Advantage to lifestyle evangelism is that it is non intrusive; this method allows you to build a relationship with someone in an appropriate manor. As you build the relationship doors open up for you to share your faith in a healthy and desirable fashion and is more likely to be accepted. Lifestyle evangelism allows people to see you as yourself (Gutieerrez, 2012). It is a way in which you carry yourself and live your life that evangelizes to others because they can see God in you.
A disadvantage of this method is that some may go out and try witnessing to others instead of being an actual witness first. “Doing witnessing without being a witness tends to treat lost people as projects rather than friends” (Earley & Wheeler, 2010). Witnessing to others but not being a witness yourself, kind of makes you look like a hypocrite. This gives Christians a bad name when they are not actively living out there life for God.
Evangelistic Method #3: Door to Door Evangelism
Also known as “door knocking” door to door evangelism is a “confrontational” method. This method is done by a group of people usually certain denominations that go out into the public and go door to door to preach the gospel. In Mathew 28:19-20 it says “Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you...
