Master's Degree Entry Essay

575 words - 3 pages

In life there are choices one has to choose whether it is to make a precise or immoral decision. Life can be so trivial and unfulfilling if a person is living their life with no plan for the future and little thought towards helping others. This may seem like an apparent statement, but I come across people every day who have not had the opportunity to realize this truth for themselves. This makes them miserable because they do not know which direction they are headed. I feel very fortunate that the goals I have formed for myself over the past few years are helping me make the most of every opportunity that presents itself, allowing me to live my life with true meaning.

I was afforded the opportunity to complete my internship at the American Correctional Association in Alexandria Virginia, through the Washington Internship Experience Program provided by the University. I graduated from the University of Mississippi with Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice and minor in Psychology.
After completing my degree, I did not know exactly what field in Criminal Justice I wanted to fulfill. After several months, I was offered the opportunity to attend the 21week Memphis Police Department Academy. I accepted the offer and with hard work and dedication I successfully completed the academy. Now, I am currently working as a Memphis Police Officer.
Over the last couple of years I have really considered returning to graduate school to complete my master degree. I have done research on several schools, and I feel that Bethel has my best interest and will help me to achieve the goals I have placed for my future. Bethel has a Christian environment which is a very important aspect in my life. I also was very honored to have great recruiters who made to inform me on missed information as well as important dates to remember. Also, Bethel has a board variety of opportunity afforded to students to help each student succeed above and beyond their goals and accomplishments.
I know that I have the strength and compassion to stand up to the challenge of a lifetime by working towards my degree. After obtaining my degree I think I will have the training and knowledge to go advance within the higher levels in the police department. Knowing that after I earn the credentials and training to go along with my compassionate nature I will be able to make a lasting and positive impact on other’s lives, and the lives of those around them, fills me with a true sense of purpose and intense eagerness to begin on the path of learning that lies before me.
