My career aspiration is to be an investment banker specializing in Investment Banking . In general, this track entails working with the Marketing and Communications group at an investment bank and leveraging my marketing and writing skills to provide “central marketing support to growth businesses.”( ). To that end , I have chosen to major in Marketing which is the process of planning and executing the conception, pricing, promotion and distribution of ideas, goods and services to create exchanges that satisfy individual and organized objectives. Most investment bankers become members of the Investment Bankers Association and the Middle Market Investment Banking Association. The first entity is a professional organization that assists businesses which desire to expand by raising capital while the latter gears its activities towards “the training, testing and certification of middle market banking professionals” including a Chartered Merger and Acquisition Professional certification . Most of the applicable certifications, however, are offered by the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) which is the dominant regulator for the industry offers ”Series 7” certification that is essential for most investment banking positions. ( )
While investment banking jobs are competitive, several industry resources provide relevant information to guide the typical job seeker. These resources include an Investment Banking Scorecard published by published by The Wall Street Journal which lists the leading companies in the sector and the Global LegalAdvisory Merger and Acquisitions Rankings publicized by Bloomberg that analyzes equity firms based on their financial strength ( ). The leading banks such as Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan and Credit Suisse and Citigroup also offer lucrative salaries that range from $200,000 to 1, 200,000 annually ( ).

It takes a specifics set of skills to be a successful investment banker as the largest full-service global investment banks provide an array of services such as sales, and research on a broad array of financial products including equities, credit, rates, currency, commodities, and their derivative. Further, investment bankers advise their clients on high level issues of financial organization. They manage the issuance of bonds, recommend and execute strategies for taking over and merging with other companies, and handle selling a company’s stock to the public. Thus, the work involves lots of financial analysis, and a strong background in finance and economics is a necessity. Personal and strategic skills are vital to investment bankers as well, for they serve as strategists for their clients,helping them develop their financial plans as well as implement them.
