Legalizing Marijuana
“Memory is the enemy of wonder, which abides nowhere else but in the present… ordinarily we think of drug experiences as additive- it’s often said that drugs “distort” normal perceptions” (Pollan 168). When the word Marijuana is said, many negative thoughts pop into one’s head. Do you ever stop and think of the positive ways marijuana can be used; as opposed to the danger in using the plant? Legalizing marijuana would also create jobs. Growers and distributors would be needed. “As of 2005 about 6.2 million dollars a year was being spent in policing and prosecuting marijuana activity” (Wastler). Many people today are able to use medicinal marijuana. They have a medicinal marijuana card or prescription in their possession that allows them to use the drug for health purposes. Marijuana usage for health reasons is beneficial to the patients who use it. It helps them get rid of pain and discomfort. Being able to walk down to your nearest distributor would greatly benefit patients who use it; they wouldn’t have to wait for a prescription, or drive miles and miles to the closest medicinal marijuana dealer. They would be able to buy it anywhere legally. Using marijuana can alter your state of mind making you feel relaxed, maybe which is of the other reasons doctors prescribe this to their cancer patients. The feeling of being relaxed is one we all want to feel. How do we achieve this level with all the stress and encounters of our daily routines? Legalizing marijuana would then allow us as an American society to use marijuana to rid us of our day to day stress by using it recreationally.
People who have no medical problems but do use Marijuana use it for recreational purposes. We desire Intoxication which brings a feeling of happiness and relaxed. It allows us to no think about tomorrow or the next day, but lets us be calm without even noticing it; which is where to marijuana comes into play. The cannabinoids allow us...
