The legalization of gambling in Texas has been in debate for many years. In
1995, Texas proposed a referendum for casino gambling but it was rejected by many of
the stateʼs conservative residents. In 2011, casino taxes accounted for $660 million of
Indianaʼs state tax revenue (Hoagland-Smith, 2012). This revenue supports basic

TXP, mindful that Texans accounted for 70 percent of the combined 2008 populations of Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas and Mississippi, extrapolated from those percentages to estimate the Texans’ share of the far-away visitors -- 43 percent -- and multiplied that percentage by the state-reported 2009 gambling revenue, about $2.5 billion.” (Texas for Economic Development, 2011).
Legalizing Gambling in Texas is the economic boom that could land Tens of thousands of jobs and money to the Lone Star State. Texans are funding state services in Louisiana, in New Mexico, in Nevada by gaming. The people deserve the right to choose whether they want cuts to their children’s education, health care for the elderly, and aid to veterans, or they want to move forward with an option to bring back the jobs and money to Texas we are giving away to other states
“Job growth in the state of Texas has done worse than the rest of the country since the peak of national unemployment in October 2009. The unemployment rate in Texas has been steadily increasing throughout the recession, and went from 7.7 to 8.2 percent while the state was supposedly creating 40 percent of all the new jobs in the U.S.” (Center for American Progress Action Fund, 2005-2011).
In the midst of the Big Thicket forest near Lake Livingston Texas lies Texas' oldest Indian Reservation, home of the Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas. On or around March 28, 2007 the Alabama Coushatta India reservation which is located 97 miles from Houston Texas; submitted a bill before the Texas Legislature?
