3. 4 Functions of Management
There are 4 main functions of management, namely planning, organizing, leading and controlling. In order for a business to prosper, the 4 functions of management play a very important role.
Planning is the first function of management. Nike’s main business growth strategy is its product innovation. Nike’s intense focus to be better plays an important role in helping to create the world’s most innovative products for consumers worldwide.
Nike’s planning strategies includes a 5 year plan of which includes the strategic managers as they have to understand the potential threats to their business and identify the ways to emerge into the market “not just as a survivor, but with an competitive edge”. (Nike, Inc, 2009) One of the Nike’s goals when they entered year 2010 was to “put investing in sustainability as a key innovation”.
In order for Nike to achieve their goal, they have strategized to focus on innovating to deliver enterprise-level sustainability solutions, integrating sustainability into the heart the business model of Nike and mobilizing the key components to partner in scaling solutions. Nike has come out with a few solutions to mobilize, by having new forms of collaborations, new platforms and by keeping consumers engaged. (Nike, Inc, 2009)
