Individual differences and diversity in workplace

The research of individual differences is a true fact since human existence.
With increasing competition in the world workplace, it is clear that the businesses with various resources still at the level of demand (Marquardt & Reynolds, 1993).
As companies face multiple of difficulties in order to keep successful in the marketplace, workforce give the company most valuable benefits. Therefore, respecting employee in the organization is the key for successful company and that can be achieve by understanding individual differences. Scientists tend to focus their study on one of the characteristics like independence, conscientiousness, agreeableness and self-control. Obviously, this is important for experimental enquiry. However, it is very useful to recognize that the analysis-view should be considered when applying theories to people at work which takes the dynamic process into account ((J. Mullins L, 2006).
Professionals commonly measure personality in three ways. First, personality inventories require the individual to answer current question which indicate the respondent’s personality. Secondly, projective tests ask the person to identify the views in a picture. Lastly, simulations, role-playing exercise, and stress interviews require behaving in a certain situation (Gordon J, 2002). Managers may use the data recorded from these instruments as side of the employment process or promotion opinions.

Attitude
Attitudes were defined by Secord and Backman(1969) as ‘ certain regularities of an individual’s feelings, thoughts and predispositions to act toward some aspects of his environment’. This definition satisfies three main components which are affective, cognitive, behavioural component (Arnold et al., 2005).

Diversity:
In general diversity is about acknowledging, understanding, accepting, valuing, and celebrating differences among people with reference to age, class, ethnicity, gender, intelligence and abilities, race, sexual orientation, spiritual practice, and public assistance status (Esty, et.al., 1995).
In this developed world, diversity subject is today regarded as a critical issue and is expected to become more vital in the next coming years since of growing differences in the population. Consequently, organizations need to take care of diversity and try to find possibilities to become completely universal companies because diversity can make the possibility of higher productivity and competitive improvements (Esty, et al., 1995). In simple words diversity is a worth thoughts and ideas that couldn’t be evaluated in any price that any company cannot manage to avoid. According to Enterprise B (2001), Managing and valuing diversity is a key of efficient people management, which definitely will improve workplace environment, which is one of the greatest strengths of any company.

Valuing diversity
As we live in a diverse work environment, it is important for managers and employees to take responsibility to specify points that are related to job or they are irrelevant. This also crucial when it comes to consumer because it is important to identify the relation with him in different circumstances and know which factors are relevant to work and which are not.
