Management and leadership is the same. Many say it is and there are those who say there is difference. A leader is not the same as a manager. A leader does just that lead individuals by motivation and encouragement. A manager does just that, manages. A leader is a person who can get others to follow where others could not. Some believe that you can’t have one without the other. You have to have both good leadership skills and good management skills in order to motivate, lead and manage individuals. This paper is to explore some of the similarities and differences between leadership and management.

Jonathan Jenkins would also have to assess any outside factors that may affect him in achieving his goals and those of the company.
The second function of management is organization. Once Jonathan has determined his available resources he must organize them. He must ensure that he has the right person performing the right job. He must ensure that each person has the right tools do the right job; each individual understands what their job is and how they fit into the mission and goals of the company. Also as a manager Jonathan must communicate with other departments to determine what resources are available to him within the company. Jonathan should also communicate any problems he is having or foresee having that may affect his not meeting the goals to higher management so they can intervene if necessary.
Influencing or directing, the third function of management is the ability to motive people and provide them with a sense of accomplishment. This s done by communicating to the employees the overall objective or goal of the company and how their role plays in the success or failure of the company. It is very important as a manager to build a positive relationship, have a positive productive working environment. Some things that will enable a manager to motive his employees include integrity, pride, sincerity, curiosity, passion and courage (Walton 2005). By displaying these traits and attributes Jonathan Jenkins can show his employees what a good manager should be.
Control the last of the four foundations of management includes the ability of the manager to set perimeters and guidelines to ensure that they are executed. Performance measures should be established to meet the mission and goals of the company. Performance evaluations and awards are tools used to motive and award those who are doing well on their job. Jenkins will have to perform periodic evaluations to ensure employees are meeting the goals and if not make adjust. This is an ongoing process that will have to be done until the job is complete or all expectations have been met.
Leadership is influencing people to follow (Maxwell, 1998, p.14). In the situation of Marilean-ah Rumplestilkin leadership failed its employees in several areas. Marilean-ah Rumplestilkins do not disturb attitude does not display a positive attitude to her employees. As a leader you must set the example by displaying a positive can do attitude so that others will want to emulate you.
