Leadership Development ...view middle of the document...

After the first couple of weeks and reading the materials and doing the exercises on the process of becoming a leader, I actually was intrigued that the steps I had to take were simple life adjustments that would not only help me reach my leadership goal in the business aspect but also in my life’s aspect as well. I just thought that as long as I am not shy and able to take corrective criticism from people I would be able to make it to the top one day. But as I kept reading I received a slap in the face that would open my eyes. It is not about being outspoken or me being able to do the work, it is about gaining the knowledge and the understanding on becoming a leader.
Physically understanding the work necessary and learning to be in a leadership position does not always mean that you are respected and respect is always given back. The fact is, knowing that you are able to help someone that is not in the same position as you are in and helping them one day to reach that goal as well.
In my case, before becoming a leader I have to learn to follow. I need to understand that I need to gain the knowledge and the stability to become that great leader. I will need the guidance of a leader that can show me the necessary things that I need to do to climb that ladder to success. This will not be an easy task and I do not expect it to be, but in the end it will get me to my final goal and then I will I fully know that I accomplished what I needed to do to get to the end of my journey.

Information Needed for Me to Become a Good Leader

When in a leadership position there are standards that need to be lived up to. You have to have the necessary skills and abilities to be a successful leader. These particular skills can also be used in your personal life as well. Companies tend to want to know what type of skills you can offer if they hire you into their company.
The skills that are needed are skills that you (as a person) would use everyday. If you do not have the skills necessary to become a good leader, there are classes that you can take the will help you to reach that goal of becoming a good leader. According to Leadership, Theory , Application, Skill Development, “Developing leadership skills is referred to as “action learning.”107 Students learn best from their own experiences by using the classroom’s social system and their personal and professional experiences to develop leadership skills through a variety of interactive approaches.” (Lussier & Achua, 2010)
It is not about how well you know the skills you have, it is about how well you put the skills that you have to good use. You have to know when to use the skills that you have when in a leadership position. It is not uncommon to ask questions or get advice from others who are either in the same position or not in the same position. It is recommended that when you don’t understand something speak up and be heard (even great leaders know when to...
