Leadership Development

A recent global survey by Kenexa reports that only 38 percent of employees rate their leaders as effective (ZIELINSKA, 2011, p1). Because of today’s troubled economic time; becoming an effective leader it is necessary toward making any organization successful. Although some people may think they don’t have leadership qualities, most people have demonstrated leadership, at one point or another, without even realizing it. Great leadership is so much more than technical or intellectual capability, while these qualities might help, but they are not that necessary in becoming a good leader. To be able to remaining true to one-self, while sticking, to our own standards is not always easy for some leaders; it requires strength of character and personal courage (ZIELINSKA, 2011, p2).

To become a good leader one must also display integrity; a business leader who is straightforward with they’re team members, will be more approachable and are more likely to gain the trust from their followers. Trust as well as mutual respect, can be built between leaders and followers through honesty. These individuals must also distinguish they are not superior or inferior to the other members of the group. Communication is an important part in leadership. Business leaders have to be open to new ideas and new methods that are suggested by others. They must be able to gather all the details and listen to everyone before coming to a conclusion in any situation. When individuals are treated fairly, they will most likely compensate their leader with commitment and loyalty.

Although a leader must be assertive and responsible, they also must be influential and motivator, by showing their teams, their true potential in achieving greatness. They must also understand what need to be done to satisfy their employees, and also able to acquire results or be able to compromise what is desired. Each individual has unique methods and different strength in the leadership role, that’s why creativity is always a plus when in come to business leadership, it gives leaders the skill to foresee new ideas and different methods, no one else has thought of;...
