Kudler Fine Foods, founded by Kathy Kudler in 1998 with a vision to grow into several store in high end markets. In summary and as shown in the 2003 strategic plan illustrated that Kudler Fine Foods was founded by Kathy Kudler first in La Jolla – California area, followed by two additional stores in 2000 and 2003. It is evident that there are issues to be addressed in areas of inventory and merchandising, purchasing and advertising, forecasting and human capital strength and weakness and it is clear that from day one most of the decision making has been made by Kathy vision and passion without any logical marketing strategy grow her business. The decision on the first store was a good decision based on the demographics, however, take the second and third locations the decision to move forward where based on how populated the area and not based on marketing research.
Kathy continued to be in charge and make decisions on activities, clearly micromanaging and not able to delegate some of her responsibilities to others, nor there were program to train someone by her, so she can dedicate more time to work closely on the marketing strategy to grow the business. Kathy knew what she wanted but could not clearly communicate her vision to her employees that in the first place were one of the main challenges to the business. Kathy lack of clear communications within the business made emphasis or monitoring any strategy or plan impossible. Kudler Fine Foods need a plan that can be measured, controlled and monitored and aligned with the mission statement on how to grow the business.
