Knowing Your Audience
The idea of the speaker being able to connect with his audience is extremely important. This is especially true during disasters such as the one that struck the Chilean copper mine on August 5, 2010. This incident involved 33 men becoming trapped 2300 feet below the ground and under 700 meters of granite. It is important that managers understand the components of communication and how to direct that communication effectively to both the families of the trapped miners and the employees of the company.

The several actions must be considered before addressing the employees and their families. Ensuring all available information is reviewed is critical prior to any message being delivered all parties involved must be reassured. It will be impossible to determine the needs of all individuals soon as important that a question-and-answer section should be included to identify new targets of information and identify the needs of employees and family members.

Around two o’clock in the afternoon our Chilean copper mine collapse. 33 miners to become trapped and their current situation at this time remains undetermined. We have initiated an investigation dealt us determine the cause of the collapse. It is our hope that by determining the cause of the collapse we can help prevent future catastrophes.
Within all of our minds contain emergency survival equipment to help minor should they become trapped in situations just like this.
