The social issue that I decided on investigating is abuse. Abuse is defined as to treat in a harmful, injurious, or offensive way. There are many different kinds of abuse and is susceptible to anyone at any age and can happen to anyone and has been a problem everywhere for a very long time. Physical abuse is often the most easily recognized form. Sexual abuse is any type of sexual contact between an adult and anyone younger than 18. Emotional abuse can be the most difficult to identify because there are usually no outward signs of the abuse. And neglect, which is difficult to identify and define.

1,770 children died from mal treatment. Four-fifths of all child fatalities were younger than four years old. Some children who died from abuse and neglect were already known to Child Protective Services (CPS) agencies.80.9 percent of perpetrators of child maltreatment were parents. And another 6.3 percent were other relatives of the victims.
The first step in helping an abused child or anyone for that matter is learning to recognize the signs of abuse and neglect. The presence of a single sign does not always prove abuse, but may warrant a closer investigation. Some signs to recognize that may signal child abuse are: if the child shows sudden changes in behavior or grades, has not received parents help for physical or medical problem brought to their attention, or has learning problems. Also when the child is always extra-alert, lacks adult supervision, or is overly compliant, passive, or withdrawn are all signs of abuse or neglect. Other signs are when the parent shows little or no concern for the child, Denies existence or “blames” the child, sees the child as worthless, or demands a level of physical or academic performance the child cannot achieve.
Signs of physical abuse may be unexplained bumps, bruises, or broken bones, also frequent absences from school, or if the parent has a history of abuse. Neglect may be if the child is begging or stealing money, abuses alcohol or drugs, or is consistently dirty and...
