|you will have to adapt the way you communicate because of the way a child or adult reacts to you. It is important that you observe a range of different |
|reactions so that you know how to respond to a child or adult. You need to understand that children or adults express what they may not be able to put |
|into words in a variety of ways. You may also need to be aware that expressions can have different meanings for different cultures. |
Outcome 2:
1. Find out an individual’s communication and language needs, wishes and preferences
|You will need to talk to their parents to find out if there are any needs their child has. Seek support and advice from other professionals such as speech|
|and language specialists. Talk to your SENCO if you need advice as to where to gain information for a child with learning needs. Observe the children and |
|find out from the line manager if there are and reports on record about child's communication needs. |
Outcome 3:
1. Identify barriers to communication
|The barriers to communication are staff absences or shortages, communicating from different locationss or sites and poor lighting or background |
|noise.Unclear structure so adults do not know who to communicate with, lack of clarification of what each person's role is in communication within the |
|setting. Personality conflicts between adults, lack of consulation, insufficient support in communicating and different views about practice. Adults with |
|personal problems or worries,such as health or relationships, adults with drepression or other psychological conditions and adults with eyesight or |
|hearing needs. Adults with English as an additional language so communication is not clearly understood, inappropriate or complicated language which can |
|sometimes stop people from understanding a message and poor explanations or misunderstanding resulting in confusion and written information that is poorly|
|presented with mistakes, such as incorrect dates for events which could cause confusion. |
