Interpersonal communications skills are extremely essential in any personal or professional relationship. I believe my interpersonal communication skills are adequate and efficient through my attitude, perception and behavior. However, through the exercises I have completed in this course I have realized that I can improve in both my professional and personal relationships. There are various opportunities and barriers to effective communication. An exhaustive review of literature regarding communication barriers to distance education summarizes the technical, psychological, social, cultural, and contextual challenges leading to a significant conclusion: that as technology used for distance education improves so does both the opportunities to overcome many of the barriers to ineffective communication and the complexity of the barriers that are faced by the participants (Berge, 2013)
Your spoken language skills:
My spoken language skills enable me to express my ideas and views confidently to the people I am communicating with. I am able to control my tone of voice without raising my pitch when I become nervous. This skill allows all parties to become involved and interested in the conversation. I understand that language is very important with that said, I have redeveloped a great sense of self concept cognitive meaning of the language, and have established awareness for the purpose and process of the particular group. According to language expectancy theory -Language Expectancy Theory assumes that language is a rule-governed system and people develop expectations concerning the language or message strategies employed by others in persuasive attempts.
Your listening skills:
My listing skills provide me with the ability to influence, persuade and negotiate in any conversation. This important skill is very necessary for my work place and home life. As a good listener I am able to give the person I am communicating with my undivided attention and acknowledge the information they are trying to convey to me without being distracted or using negative body language. I try to remember to ask question if I am unsure or misunderstand the conversations, as explain in out text, sometimes I can jump to assumptions and make judgments based on my personal experiences, by asking question I am not only learning from others but also opening myself up to others personal experiences and beliefs. My job consist a variety of communications skills such as, listening and gathering information, using effective listening skills creates a positive work environment which influences my team’s opinions and responsiveness to each other. My listing skills enable me to form good relationship personally and professionally as a result; I am able to better understand where others are coming from and become more compassionate to their needs. People learn by observing others, Social Cognitive Theory suggest this theory is relevant to healthy communication. First, the theory deals with cognitive, emotional aspects and aspects of behavior for understanding behavioral change. Second, the concepts of the SCT provide ways for new behavioral research in health education. Finally, ideas for other theoretical areas such as psychology are welcome to provide new insights and understanding.
