Question #1 – Describe and evaluate a major corporation’s Website in these four areas: (1) product information, (2) corporation’s contact information, (3) customization of products for customers, and (4) customer information at purchase.
Product information
Sony actively uses customer feedback to improve its products. Opinions, reports of defective products, inquiries about using products and other feedback received through Customer Information Centers are reviewed and submitted to planning and design groups so that improvements can be made (Product, ...view middle of the document...

Customization of Products for Customers
It appears that the VAIO computers are the only product that is customized although Sony offers customized set up of all their electronic equipment (Fanboy, 2012). Sony Style store is the official home of the VAIO brand of Sony notebooks. You can customize a VAIO to your specifications from choosing the color, texture, performance speed, and you can even have the notebook laser engraved.
Customer Information at Purchase
Sony does not collect any Personal Information unless you provide it voluntarily. If a customer volunteers personal information, the only information collected will be what is necessary to fulfill the customer’s request. Refusal to disclose personal information may prohibit access to certain areas of a purchased product (e.g. the PlayStation chat areas) (Sony Online, 2012).
Question #2 – Describe and evaluate three (3) of the corporation’s Internet marketing strategies and the competitive advantages its Website provides.
Sony has created a fictional character to act as a spokesperson as part of the company’s “It Only Does Everything” campaign. It is intended to target women and families in an effort to promote the PlayStation as an entertainment center, not just a gaming console. Information will be packaged with incentives aimed at mothers who can share information within their social circles and through Facebook and Twitter (Sullivan, 2011). With this strategy, Sony can capture an audience that has the potential to become a focus group that will increase exposure and provide ideas that may take Sony gaming in another direction, maybe in the area of education of children who are home schooled. Math, spelling, and reading games are an increasing area of interest. Nintendo has a line of educational games for their gaming consoles and Sony is working on bringing educational games to the classroom (“Sony Working”, 2011).
Sony has created an online store, Sony Style, where a consumer can customize and order a VAIO laptop computer (“Sony Corporation”, 2012). The Sony Style store offers free ground shipping on orders over $25, offers help in the decision and customization process, and offers a 30-day price guarantee. Consumers who purchase in bulk are also offered special pricing. This feature is appealing to businesses that use multiple computing stations and are looking for a bargain.
Sony has increased its sales with internet web site promotion. These continuous promotions while on their website prompt consumers to explore the offerings. By keeping their website updated the newest and most innovative products gain exposure leading to increased sales.
Question #3 – Analyze and evaluate the corporation’s privacy/security policy and the corporation’s response to the security breach.
Sony’s response to the PlayStation breach was extremely unacceptable. On April 19th, Sony became aware of an intrusion on its PlayStation Network. ...
