Political Ignorance: Hatred amongst African Americans in US History

Thanks for visiting the Blogsite again. You may think this will be just another opinionated article on African American culture being posted because it’s voting season. In fact, you’re correct. This article was dedicated to provide a realistic inside look into the history of the African American culture because there is a trend of American citizens stating they are voting for Obama because he is black. There are quite a few who have no other reason as to why they are voting for him other than that and since they may not be able to ...view middle of the document...

These were by the same people who forcefully took the land from the Native Americans who already called the area home. You’ll sometimes see records that’ll show Native Americans were also used for slavery which explains a lot of blacks with Native American ancestry.
Slavery lasted during the 16th, 17th and 18th Centuries. It wasn’t until the mid 19th century that America’s Westward movement would provoke a debate over slavery leading into the Civil War. It was the North (against slavery) vs. South (wanted to keep slavery) from 1861 to 1865 and the North won. (A&E Television Networks, 1996-2012)
Civil Rights
Yet, another American struggle for African Americans. Now that slavery had been abolished thanks to the co-signature from the, then, President Abraham Lincoln, there came a time African Americans decided to take a stand for equal rights. They were forced to slave, which helped build the nation, and dealt with racism and discrimination for over 400 years. There were governments in place, jobs, schools, health, and being that they had the right to live free in American, then why can’t they practice the same legal practices as any other race in America- since they are citizens now. There weren’t any ancestors left that were originally from Africa. It’s not like they can just go back. (Paul)
Starting in the mid 1950’s, a social movement amongst African Americans was born. Discrimination against African Americans wasn’t going to stand any longer and voter rights were one of their main goals. African Americans performed non-violent protests and orderly concerns. Of course, the South still carried hatred for losing the Civil War and decided to keep its hatred and racism towards African Americans responding to these non-violent protests with, ironically, nothing but violence and deadly force. From forceful water hosing of women and children to violent German Sheppard dogs attacking peaceful men, for about 5 years African Americans endured this non-stop for justice.
Finally in 1964, the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was put into place that banned discrimination based on "race, color, religion, or national origin" in employment practices and public accommodations; the Voting Rights Act of 1965, that restored and protected voting rights; the Immigration and Nationality Services Act of 1965, that dramatically opened entry to the U.S. to immigrants other than traditional European groups; and the Fair Housing Act of 1968, that banned discrimination in the sale or rental of housing. African Americans re-entered politics in the South, and across the country young people were inspired to action. (Voting Rights Act 1965)
Fast Forward
In the 70’s Hip Hop was born. A new form of heart pumping sounds and the passion of cultured expressional music. The 80’s was an up-rise of the black middle class began to increase rapidly. It was easier for African Americans to buy homes and acquire better jobs. The 90’s helped reduce poverty in America with the...
