Southwest Airlines is a major U.S. airline and the world's largest low-cost carrier. The headquarters are in Dallas, TX. The airline was established in 1967 and took on their current name in 1971. The company employs more than 46,000 people. They operate more than 3,000 flights per day and it carries the most passengers, domestically in America. Southwest has over 80 destinations in over 40 states and Puerto Rico. The Airlines has exclusively used Boeing 737s, except between the years in the 1970s and 1980s, when they used Boeing 727s. They have some of the lowest rates in the world and they offer rewards and perks other airlines do not. Southwest Airlines proclaims its devotion to every neighborhood that we serve. They have with a concept, developed early on called LUV. This is the concept that the airline has “LUVed” their employees, customers, and neighbors from the very beginning. They made love “LUV” their motto and they made their start Love Field in San Antonio, TX. The company later setup their New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol LUV. The airline believes that with this concept it scream to the customers “We offer our hearts! From monetary and in-kind donations to From the Heart volunteer efforts, Southwest reaches out to provide help where needed”. (Kelly, About Southwest, 2013) The airlines’ CEO, Gary Kelly, says “In business doing the right thing usually happens to be the smart thing.” Beside the concept of “LUV” the CEO is dedicated to what he calls the triple bottom line, performance, people and plant. He believes this philosophy is the three pillars that provide a smart, natural filter for making reliable business choices. He believes that this will create a financially sound company. Southwest airline exhibits the culture by their works in the community. They make stride to conserve our natural resources. The added vertical winglets to save on fuel thereby reduce the cost and added back to the company. This in turn helps the environment with fewer fuel emissions and helped with add job security due to the lowered cost to the company. In 2012 the airline redid all the inside of the cabins with eco-friendly, lightweight material that is both comfy and hard-wearing. Each year Gary Kelly is said to look at the annual reports and measure annual performance. These reports comprehensive and the not only look at financial growth but also look at social and environmental performance. The company is very transparent with carbon disclosure.
