India Rising
“We owe a lot to the Indians, who taught us to count, without which no worthwhile scientific discovery would have been made!” –Albert Einstein. India is one of the brightest countries in the world yet is disowned by western powers, America and England. The movie Slumdog Millionaire was directed and written by biased British people. They unfairly and incorrectly portrayed India to the world. Slumdog Millionaire is not an accurate depiction of modern India; it is instead a very innovative, politically stable, and one of the wealthiest countries in the world.
Slumdog Millionaire exaggerated the flaws in India’s political system. The movie showed police brutality in ...view middle of the document...

Money speaks. It says your status, your power, your influence, but most importantly it says that you matter. India is one of the wealthiest countries in the world. India’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2013 was 1858.7 billion US dollars. The Unites Kingdom’s GDP in 2013 was 2461.77 billion US dollars. This shows that India’s economy is very close to the economies of developed nations. Also, India has some of the richest people in the world. There are 56 Indians on the Forbes Billionaires list, while there are only 43 people from the United Kingdom. Companies like Mercedes, Audi, BMW, Lamborghini, and others are now prospering in India due to the extreme wealth. Mukesh Ambani recently built the world’s most valuable home in Mumbai. The house has helicopter pads, indoor theaters, and a staff of over 600; it is arguably even greater than the White House. Even though India is this rich, the movie Slumdog Millionaire only portrayed the slums. The movie showed all the problems occurring in the slums, yet it only showed the economic prosperity of India for a measly few seconds. Though Slumdog Millionaire showed the slums, it failed to show the millions of people migrating away from slums to better opportunities. It did not properly show the undeniable progress being made. According to the document 2, even the poorest of Indians are now able to afford brand-name shampoos, detergents, and luxuries like mouthwash, medications, and thermometers. The same claim cannot be said for the homeless in New York City. India is financially, culturally, and innovatively one of the richest countries in the world.
The land of opportunity used to be the United States of America. Today India is the new land of opportunity. Anybody who is willing to work hard has the opportunity to better themselves. People in rural area are thinking of innovative solutions to common problems. For example someone invented a machine that milks cows without the cow feeling any pain. More and more companies are moving to India because India is rich in young, educated, and innovative thinkers. India has given many gifts to the world. Inventions such as the number zero, the Hindu/Arabic number system, and plastic surgery are all Indian inventions. India is one of nine countries that possess nuclear weapons. That puts them on far with developed countries like American and the United Kingdom. Alongside these achievements India’s greatest success is its Mars probe. India sent a probe to Mars for 74-75 million dollars. It took the United States 637 million dollars to send a spacecraft to Mars. India’s...
