Hypothetical working agreement
Freydia, a 27 year old mother of two has been addicted to crack for 4 years resulting in her children being removed from her home be child protective services. They are currently living with her mother, and Freydia would like to regain custody of them.
Since Freydia, is new to me I have to take the time to get a good assessment of her, does she really want to quit using? Does she really want her children back? How much is she willing to do to get ...view middle of the document...

We have set up a contract that Freydia will continue rehab whether it is outpatient or inpatient. She would need to stay clean for an extended period of team before the children will be allowed to come home. Once I have had a chance to review all of Freydia, progress we would then have a discussion about what she may or may not need to continue to work on prior to getting her children back. If at any point I feel that she is becoming overwhelmed with the task at hand I will suggest that for a moment we shift our attention to something a little less overwhelming like getting the house ready for the kids to come home too, or finding a sponsor. Knowing that her children at the time are safe with her mother, Freydia can worry for the time being about getting herself well so she can be the best mother possible for her children.
