A magazine writer must be social and outgoing in order to get news that is of interest to readers. As mentioned before, the Myers Briggs test revealed that I ultimately am very social and am a “seller.” The Career Interests profile said I enjoy social interaction, which obviously is a very important characteristic that is needed to be a successful magazine writer. The O*Net Interest profile gave me a high score in being enterprising. I valued this characteristic because in order to get ahead in the working world you must be creative and different.
In order to achieve this goal of becoming a magazine writer I plan on gaining valuable experiences. In my future years to come at Rutgers I plan on working for the school newspaper, The Daily Targum. By doing this, I will learn the aspects of news writing and how exactly everything in the print world in done. Also, by participating in newspaper, I will form new relationships that will hopefully help me in the future. Along with gaining experience from working at the Targum, I plan on partaking in internships that will gain me school credits. Another internship that I am interested in is writing for American Cheerleader Magazine. As a cheerleader for the university, I feel as if working at that magazine would allow me to combine my two passions. After gaining all this work experience, I plan to work for a famous fashion magazine like Cosmopolitan or Seventeen.
In my life to come, no matter what path I take all I wish for is to be happy. I plan to work with the results of my personality tests and do something that will be fulfilling. This class has allowed me to reflect upon my career and what exactly I will do to have a happy life.
