Human Services Programs: Commonalities and Successes

These trends have been contributors to the changes that have been happening in the field of human services. Political trends for example, the “devolution revolution” back in the close of the Twentieth Century (Cooke, Reid, & Edwards, 1997) shifted responsibilities from the federal government to the state and local government. It led to privatization that increased cost. This trend in the political sector put accountability in the human services deliveries (Osborne & Gaebler, 1992) by questioning the War on Poverty and other social programs. Politics have an impact on human services programs because their own existence depends on their ability to respond to political changes and the well-being of clients (Lewis & Packard, 2012). Social trends also impact social services deliveries. As part of the social trends cultural diversity is rapidly impacting demographics in the United States (Lewis & Packard, 2012) . According to Kotkin, 2010, p.1, demographics have changed significantly making racial minorities particularly Asians and Hispanics be the net population in America. “By the middle of the 21st century, America will have no clear majority race” (Kotkin, 2010, p. 1). Mental health organizations are playing a crucial role in serving a vast variety of immigrant s coming from undeveloped countries. Human services deliveries need to be inclusive, culture competent, and diligent to make sure that programs adapt to the client’s needs. On the other hand technological trends also play a significant role in human services deliveries. Taylor &...
