These standards set out to guide HR professional to understand, explain
and critically evaluate of the competencies needed at the level of support, practitioner, and advance
practitioner.
Specifically, the objectives of NHRS are to:
i.

Provide a framework that makes clear the knowledge, practice and professional engagement
required across HR professional careers.
Enable educational institutions/training providers to redesign their intervention programmes for the
development of HR professionals
Outline what constitutes best practices in HRM.
Provide a framework by which organisations can judge the success of their HR practices

The NHRPS framework (Figure 1) shows the foundation by which the National Human Resource Standards
(NHRS) was developed. The standard that forms the basis of NHRS includes personal effectiveness
standards, academic standards, workplace standards, industry-wide HR standards, and industry-sector HR
standards.

THE FIVE DIMENSIONS
The NHRS is build of five dimensions (Figure 2) namely; talent management, learning & development,
compensation & benefits, employee relations, and strategic HR leadership. The scope for each dimensions
is presented in Figure 3

• The process of ensuring a continuous internal and external supply of qualified talent at the
right time, right number, and right cost into the organisation

• The process of ensuring continuous and sustained growth in key
