Human Resource Management
Human resource management is a very important department within an organization therefore; it should be conducted effectively to achieve company’s success within the organization. The human resource management department is mandated with the employees’ management directly and dealing with the human beings is a challenging task in firm since the organization success is directly related to the motivation and happiness of the employees (Dessler, 2005). The HR department applies specific theories and philosophies to assist them in managing their employees. It is concerned with proper utilization of the employees by the HR department to maximize the output of the employees accordingly.
The CPM is a subset of the HRM since it is concerned with making sure that the employees are used effectively to maximize their productivity. The CPM is a function of the human resource management department in the organization and it must ensure that the human capital is channeled to the achievement of the objectives of the organization (Dawson, 2003). It deals with the employees’ motivation e.g. it ensures the employees are happy and produces high output as anticipated. The challenges that face the CPM include: maintaining a competitive advantage, behaving ethically, management of a diverse work force, and effective utilization of the emerging technologies in the market.
The utilitarianism principle states that the actions of an individual are right provided that it encourages and promotes the happiness or pleasure of that person (Mulgan, 2014). It explains that a good life is achieved mainly by the pursuit of the happiness and the pleasure by the individual. The theory gives a definition of reality in terms of maximizing the net anticipated utility for everybody who is affected by a specific decision.
The utility principle postulates that the actions of a person are right to the extent that they promote the greatest good for a majority number. Happiness principle on the other hand postulates that the actions of the individual or the organization are considered moral so long that they promote utility where as they are not immoral when the action encourages unfairness.
The utilitarianism principle argues that the human happiness is an ethical goal. This is because the organization that upholds that practices that the ethical considerations in its management of the employees will result to happiness of the employees. The organization can practice the ethics and moral behavior through fair treatment of the employees during promotions, shunning discrimination, providing better working environment, and avoiding sexual harassment. The organization that practices these ethical practices would result to motivation of the employees and therefore their happiness.
The utilitarianism principle and the contemporary people management are related since the latter strives to promote the utilitarianism principle in the organization through using and integrating the ethical practices in order to attain the motivation and therefore happiness of the employees. The human resource management ensures that the ethical goals are met in order to attain the utilitarianism that states that a good life is achieved mainly by the pursuit of the happiness and the pleasure by the individual.
