Industrial relation tradition
The legalization of trade unions in 1871 raised the need for systematic frameworks, clashes resolution and the management of relations among employees and employers. Increasingly active role taken by labour organisations was reflected in political recognition; the trade unions formed a labour Party in 1960s and 70s.
Industrial relations tradition of personnel management arose due to the growing power of trade unions through to the 1960s and ‘70s, when the personnel officer’s work and responsibilities involved mediating between the sides in industrial disputes.
