Careers in the health care management range from administration to policy-making roles. It is the manager’s responsibility to work with HR (human resources) in finding ways for employees to develop their careers. Helping employees with career management by making certain roles standard to improve strengths and diminish weaknesses are carried out. Resource constraints contain barriers that construct a lack of a particular resource such as finances, time, expertise or another resource (Crouse, Doyle, & Young, 2011). Women or minorities can still face the obstacle of breaking down barriers in the workforce. A study revealed that minorities, such as women or religious groups can be excluded from career development activities. This is a situation that can be solved with proper communication and basic training of employees.
Solving Challenges
The assessment phase of career development is basically to identify strengths and weaknesses that employees possess. By developing ones’ career a person must acknowledge what they need to change or differ to become more successful at what he or she does. An interest inventory measures occupational interests of a person. Employees can gain the knowledge to determine which career will satisfy their interests. Managers use promotability forecast to separate individuals who have a greater chance of being promote within their careers. These individuals are introduced to experiences (executive training seminar) to help develop their working skills. Succession planning by definition states, HR uses tracking and monitoring to carry out any type of executive position that needs to be filled. This type of activity is useful for organizations because there is not necessarily a turn-over that can affect a business. This is because there is a limited amount of interruptions. The direction phase is when employees decide what type of career they want and what steps must be taken to help them get to that point. Managers must make sure that the employee coincides with the career they choose for the best results. Individual career counseling is when one-on-one interviews are conducted to better understand the type of career the employee is leaning toward. According to University of Phoenix  Managing Human Resources (2012), line managers conduct career counseling sessions, the HR department usually monitors the sessions’ effectiveness and provides assistance to the managers in the form of training, suggested counseling formats, and other techniques. The development phase is when actions are taken to nurture the growth for improving career skills. Mentoring, coaching, job rotation, and tuition assistance are common development programs that organizations utilize. Some of these programs can be used to improve development for a person’s personal life as well.
