Balance promotions, transfers, exits, etc. and establish dual career paths. Developing initiatives and find out talent in your organization would be a plus as well. Most employees want to be awarded for their efforts or a least recognized for them. Although some firms play a role in the planning or their employee’s career, it is ultimately up to the employee to be responsible for initiating and managing their own career. It’s always best to know the path you want to take as an individual. In doing this you can present you skill, abilities, interest and values which only you can do not have someone else dictate what roads you want to take. All a person need at times is guidance because we don’t always know what avenues we want to take and it helps when someone can put a little encouragement and sound advice in a situation, without having a motive behind it. This is where Human Resources would really be helpful because they can provide employees with a clear set of expectations and directions for their own career development. When you can be a Mentor whether it be for job purposes or just a kind gesture this shows managerial support, which in these times are rare to say the least. Businesses and or Company’s really need to work on Mentoring so that they may be more understanding. They should challenge and stimulate learning, coach and provide wise counsel and teach by example and be a role model and be encouraging.
