Recognition is one of the things that every mortal being requires in life. Because of the need, for recognition there exists several ways in which people are recognized. Some of the way in which people are recognized is through pecuniary compensation, while others are recognized by making a ceremony. Some of people are given rewards and given a global recognition, it is because of the above mentioned and lack of recognition that there came several methods of recognizing the people who have contributed to the success of the community by using different talents bestowed in them. With the banning of star trek and making it look like a syndicate its popularity grew. With the Support of the masses, Roddenberry proceeded with the creation and production of his television series one of which was called the next generation. With his popularity and the popularity of his films growing Hollywood bestowed a star on him on the Hollywood walk of fame. He was also inducted to the science fiction hall of fame. His popularity grew more and more within no time, he was inducted into the academy of television art & sciences hall of fame. As recognition of his work and his populace when he died in the 24th day of October year 1991, he became the first person who had his ashes be buried in space (Engel, 1994). Even with his death, the star trek that had gained root such that it has existed for four decades, while still producing television series, which were six in number. In the lifetime of star trek, it has produced 715 episodes, 6 television exciting series and 11 films (Engel, 1994). Further, the star trek universe is just about to release its twelfth films, which is scheduled to be launched in the year 2012.

Gene Roddenberry seems to succeed in each and everything he puts his hands on. Before he ventured into the media industry, while still in the army he received several awards that were only given to people with distinguish characteristics and artistic capability (Engel, 1994). Some of the awards he received were the Distinguished Flying Cross award as well as the air medal awarded to pilot whom posse special skills. While working as a commercial pilot he was awarded with civil aearoutics commendation, this commendation was for recognition of his expertise skills in the rescue effort of the June 1947 plane crash, which was heading to Karachi. Because of his skills in English, he was made the speechwriter for the famous and prominent LAPD chief by the name William Parker (Gross, Roddenberry & Altman, 1994). This position was highly respected since a lot of vetting was done before a person was given this position. Feeling the urge to advance and even without formal education in the media industry, he ventured into freelance journalism, where he started writing television series, which were largely bestowed with many moral teachings. By use of the science fiction, which was produced on low budgets, he displayed morality stories by use of futuristic situation as a similarity for the current existing problems (Engel, 1994). In a period when America was going through turmoil in the political, geopolitical and social issues, Roddenberry offered hope to his audience which many people even the motivational speakers shunned. This kind of hope could only originate from a person who had a genius mind.
