e. Japan. The Met Museum has some exhibits related to 1945 atomic bombing. This piece of information will make relation of these pieces of arts with the personal narrative of people.
On the fateful day of August 6, 1945, Mr. Katsutani a survivor of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, recalls a “white flash of light.” U.S. Airforce bomber “The Enola Gay” dropped a nuclear bomb on the city shortly after eight in the morning. The bomb, when detonated 2000 feet above the ground, was seen as the flash of white light and dark cloud. The white flash was followed by a loud noise “a tremendous blast.” The sound of the atomic bomb left deep impressions on the memory of survivors and made them wary of loud noises even after decades of the event. “The unleashed power of the atoms has changed everything save our modes of thinking, and thus we drift toward unparalleled catastrophe” Robert J. Oppenheimer(Hunt 29-30).
The Met Museum holds the photography of Harold Edgerton capturing the first few microseconds of an atomic bomb explosion. The picture depicts the formation of a dark and thick white cloud. Writing the narratives of survivors and the eyewitnesses along with the blast will help to emphasize the destructive power of the atomic bomb. It will provide a visual clue to revisit the history of how it happened and will relate it actual happenings of the day.
