HOLOCAUST SHORT STORY

Hello my name is joseph hofstein And I'm a german jewish teenager. I'm 16 years old and i lived in germany working in my parents restaurant. There was an event called kristallnacht that destroyed my parents business, our money was stolen, the glass was shattered and the building was raided of anything worth value. The next morning me and my faMily were sent to live in the ghetto along with all other fellow jewish people , we were identified by our star of david on our clothes. we were all derived of all our rights and privileges. i had read hitler's book mein kampf ...view middle of the document...

Bergen-Belsen was a living HELL with no chance of escape ,small rations of food and insufficient clothing to protect ourselves from the harsh weather conditions. In camp there was no true friend , everybody would try to steal your food or clothes. Anne was different she only wanted a person she could talk to just for her amusement. Each day was worse than the others,we thought it was snowing outside but a closer look revealed it was ashes falling from a different extermination camp. We all soon realized we could be the next set of people to meet this fate. If you did not want to work or refused to follow command you were automatically killed . The suffering at this camp encouraged many people to run to the nearest electric fence to electrocute themselves to stop the torture. I had faith in GOD to keep me protected at the camp as well as everyone else. The following morning the guards announced that the camp was overfilled and they had to get rid of a few thousand people. They looked for people with sickness and people they felt served no use anymore. The train arrived and sent the people that didn't pass inspection to chelmno extermination camp. Me,Anne and Margot had tried to keep ourselves as healthy as possible to avoid being sent to chelmno. We met every night at a secret location where the guards wouldn't try to look and we shared food and had a long conversation filled with laughter and jokes. The following morning i walked outside and tripped over a corpse but there was over 270 corpses on the ground and the cause of their death was typhus. I 'took extreme precautions to avoid getting sick because typhus was very contagious and only the guards had access to medicine. I saw Anne crying and i asked her what's wrong , she told me that margot had contracted typhus and that she was looking very pale and weak. I hugged her and did not let her go assuring her that no matter what happens she will always have me as a shoulder she could rest on. we have been at belsen for about 2 months now and we are all half starved to death. sometimes we don't get fed at all depending on the mood of the guards. The harsh winter was approaching us and none of us had the appropriate clothing to survive the horrific conditions, especially when typhus was still spreading and killing many of us at the camp. I went from burying 10 bodies a day to 400 bodies a day. I was depleted of any energy i made of had left. I was hoping that somebody would liberate us from this living hell, which we did nothing to deserve such a life. Just the thought that even little kids would not be able to grow up and share the story of their experience of the holocaust through the generations of family. I constantly see women being abused from the guards and the men being beat up only for the amusement of the guards and to show their authority over us. We were fortunate to be at belsen because it was not an extermination camp such as buchenwald and auschwitz-birkenau. The jewish population...
