The society as a whole has been strengthened tremendously due to this. The caste system has acted to organize and give the Hindu society a passionate emphasis on social duties and sacrifice of earthly individual desires for the purpose of social order. The objective is to eliminate earthly trepidations and to promote acceptable behavior in accordance to higher laws. Women’s role in Hindu culture is unique yet complicated. Scores of Hindu deities are depicted as women, they are typically revealed as either aggressive or even dominate. This may have led to women’s status being more equal in the earlier times of Hinduism in India. At the same time women were subservient to men to prove their loyalty. This included Sati. Women offering themselves to be cremated on their husband’s funeral pyre. Sati is no longer in practice excluding some very remote parts of India. One tradition that continues to this day is Purdah. Nowadays Purdah is how Hindu women show their subordination to men.
