Inside the economical world today managers are faced with trials and tribulations on how to successful maintain their current positions as well as keep up to date on the politics of the workplace. Management is faced with the unique challenge to stay aware of the company culture and all of the politics as well as continue to grow and educate the environment around them. Many organizations inside the healthcare field find the balance of staying on top by continuously expanding the training department. It allows a person to know if they are performing their job function and duties correctly. Measuring competencies also allows employers to make informed decisions on if certain people are in an appropriate position. For example, as a manager it would not be wise to have a person with few social skills as the front office receptionist this type of position calls for a person with people skills. It would be beneficial to the company and the employee to allow the person to work on the skills as while performing back office duties. One way to incorporate this is to allow the back office manager to fill in for the front office manager during breaks or lunches. This allows the back office exposure to the front office and to the patients but not for long extended periods of time. Once the person is comfortable and has met this social competency it would be acceptable to transition this person to a permanent front position (Tieman, 2002).
The development of a good tracking and evaluating training program can start with organizations using a competency based system. Once it has been determined that you will use a competency tracker then the next step is to develop S.M.A.R.T goals. The letters...
