It has been proposed that all fields of the society should follow the 5 year leadership model in order to insure the success of their enterprise. Although exponents and opponents may offer germaine reasoning for or against this view, we cannot intelligibly guarantee success through this model. In other words, is difficult to generalize between different industries on when a new leadership must be selected. The viability of such option depends on the size of the field, the room for error, and managerial experience necessitated. This model may stand for smaller industries, but may fail miserably on a large scale.
The generalization to replace leaderships after 5 years in ...view middle of the document...
Irrespective of the previous argument, some fields require an experienced managerial team. Under such circumstances new leadership is not necessarily the path to success. Who can forget the irreplaceable Steve Jobs of Apple whose life long managerial contribution revolutionized the computer and technology industry. Following his unfortunate death, the new leadership has been inconsistent and under criticism for specious design decisions and an abasing market shares. Hence, within certain industries, leadership takes many years to develop and 5 years is insufficient to guarantee success.
As explained above, the idealized 5 year term is not practical in many fields and industries. In most democratic nations, government may rule four years or more with the possibility of an extension if re-elected. Because, projects at the national scale such as construction of power plants, airports, and military projects take many years to complete. Moreover, it is not viable to quickly change the governance with completely new political views who may cancel multi-billion dollar under construction projects.
All in all, the 5 year leadership period has been proposed as an alternative to enterprise revitalization. This period was shown to work for smaller industries where risks are smaller. In larger industries and fields where the credibility of a multi-billion dollar or the faith of a society lies, this model is positively specious. Companies that take on this model must investigate its propriety and ensure the risks undertaken are worth it.
