Alleged Global Warming has been a hot topic and been widely reported in the American media since the 1970s. In March 2014, TED, a nonprofit committed to expanding ideas with short talks, gave a powerful presentation of the alleged current consequences of Global Warming in Gavin Schmidt’s (2014) talk: The emergent patterns of climate change. His claims are stark and he implores his audience to take the grave predictions of Global Warming seriously and not just write it off as insignificant. 1-13). Cornell University (2010) calls Global Warming Global Climate Change making the topic a climate issue and not just a warming issue (see Appendix A). And even though they use a different term, Cornell provides a graph (graph 2) from Keeling and Whorf (2005) to show the CO2 variations for the northern hemisphere. It shows a linear increase that began in 1960 which is in line with the common definition of Global Warming.
Pro Global Warming
With the plethora of data that can be found to support Global Warming, it is not surprise that Anderegg (2010) of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences reports that 97 percent of climate scientist endorsed their position that the increase of warming is caused by humans. For example, melting icebergs that leave floating ice in polar oceans is causing the sea levels to rise ever so slightly which could cause grave damage in the overall ecosystem. The floating ice had is just one area that scientist say is the direct impact of the increased temperatures caused by humans reports the University of Leeds (2010) a prestigious UK university. And, agricultural businesses are concerned what the climate change will do to farming. One estimate predicts the climate change will substantially increase wheat prices which impacts everyone (Seattle Business, 2010).
Con Global Warming
As fervent as scientists are about the abundance of evidence that Global Warming is true, opponents are just as passionate that Global Warming is a farce. Ellie Zolfagharifard (2014) of Mail Online, blasted the errors in the UN report of the melting of the Himalayan glaciers saying it manipulated and deleted data. She claims the report reporting was a trick to hide information of the true alarm of Global Warming. Additionally, Jennifer Hickey (2014) of Newsmax responded to Obama’s 2014 National Climate Assessment as a “masterpiece of marketing that crumbles like a "house of cards" under the weight of real-world evidence” when the report claimed “humans are drastically changing the climate by burning fossil fuels” (para.2). And, Colorado State University professor William Gray (2003) claims that Global Warming is a hoax because change in temperatures and the...
