Introduction
The essential business of the health care industry is the delivery of health care services. In the U.S., the health care industry is considered to be the largest service employer. Funding for the U.S. health care services consists of a mix of public and private payment sources. Medicare and Medicaid represent the two major health programs.

Funding for the Continuum of Long Term Care Services

Long Term Care is a continuum of health care for people suffering from some sort of disability. Long term care is utilized by people of all ages ranging from a variety of diagnoses. With the increase of the aging Baby Boom generation, there has been a growth in people needing the services of long term care. Although long term care facilities have been established to assist with care, family and friends are usually the main providers of long term care. Susan Berg (2013), states in her article that According Medicare.gov, by 2020, 12 million older Americans will need long-term health care. Family members may be able to help with some of the needs of a disabled loved one, but some care--such as nursing care or therapy--must be given by licensed health care workers.
The primary goal of long term care is to assist individuals with becoming functional and also regaining their independence. The continuum of care, by definition is a system of care integrated to smoothly run together. The provided services are separated into categories and may vary according to the amount of care offered. Although the categories were created to easily identify each service, managers often find it to be a challenge when trying to coordinate service for care.
Funding for The continuum of long term care services is a little complex as many financial resources play a huge role in funding. Medicare was designed to cover short term care only and doesn’t provide coverage for illnesses or disabilities that are deemed as long term. Since long term care is an expensive service, I recommend that patients should plan in advance should they require long term care in the future. Although there are federal programs established...
