Functions of Management

Within every business you will find managers. Managers perform the same tasks in every company whether your company sells building materials or cosmetics. There are four functions of management; planning, organizing, leading, and controlling, according to (Bateman & Snell, 2009, p. 12). All managers have to plan, organize, lead, and control to achieve their company’s goals. Each task of a manager’s job is important and essential to their company’s overall success.

We monitor the rigs on a 24 hour basis for quality and safety measures.
Leading or directing a team or company is one of the hardest jobs for a manager. You have to know your people and their abilities in order to effectively lead a team to obtain the desired results. It is important for a manager to be able to motivate their team and guide their team to achieve their goals or the goals of the company. Each manager must be able to inspire their employees through leadership and gain the trust and confidence of each of their employees. Daily feedback is important to each member of a team in order to help the team work together to successfully reach their goals on schedule. My organization has managers that act as liaisons between the home office and each drill site to assure everyone is informed of the progress of the drilling rigs. Information is fed through computers each day as to the progress of each drill site. The field personnel and office personnel are kept informed on a 24 hour schedule as to the exact location of each rig and where they are in the drilling process. Our field managers turn in reports every hour to keep personnel in the office up to date as to the situations occurring in the fields.
