The Four Circles Model
Merriam-Webster defines belief as the acceptance or assurance that something is true. Belief takes faith, because sometimes there is no evidence to support what a person believes. In every successful career you will find someone who first believed; in every successful career that was challenging, you will find someone who had faith. This paper will focus on the Four Circles Model that is founded on what a person believes. It will identify how the Four Circles Model is reflected in my present school, recognize improvements in each of the areas, and how curriculum changes can affect those improvements.

At Edward W. Bok Academy, what we know is that when you put the best interests of the students first, then you end up earning a school grade of an “A” for 5 consecutive years in a row, being ranked in the top 5 percentile of middle schools in the State of Florida, and being honored as an Apple Distinguished School. Our system uses the Marzano Teacher Evaluation Model to evaluate what teachers know; the Marzano Teacher Evaluation Model is a summative evaluation that is used to meet the organizations’ need for teacher accountability (Glickman, Gordon, and Ross-Gordon, 2014). And lastly, the final segment of the Four Circles Model (what we do) is reflected through strategies and approaches like: peer mentoring and coaching, functioning as professional learning communities, and offering continual professional development. Glickman et al. (2014) says that when professional development is properly planned and implemented, it can be very useful in assisting in improving a teacher’s skills of teaching and learning.
Areas of Improvement
Even the best schools have room for improvement. With all the constant changes taking place in education with Common Core Standards and annual evaluations, one can never become complacent. Although I honestly feel as if my present school, Edward W. Bok Academy does a good job reflecting the Four Circles Model, there are areas that can be improved. For example, when examining what we believe, I stated earlier that we believe that ALL students have the right to education and that we ensure that the education is on a higher level of learning; but ALL students do not get accepted into Bok Academy. The fact is that 70% of the student population at Bok Academy are Caucasian, while 13% are African American, 16% are Hispanic, and 1% other. When looking at those statistics, and the fact that the rejection and waiting lists are filled with minorities, I think the time has come to analyze what we believe as a school. One way that I feel that we can improve getting what we want at Edward W. Bok Academy is by working more collaboratively to achieve individual and group goals. For what we know, one area of improvement would definitely be a more comprehensible training on the Marzano Teacher Evaluation Model to ensure that everyone fully grasps the concepts. And lastly, one area of improvement for what we do that we need to realize has to do with implementing new strategies, software, and applications. Changing strategies, software, and applications every time something new comes out is not effective, nor is it efficient; we have to give the students and ourselves enough time to get comfortable with the supplemental material in order for it to work for us.
