Foundations Paper

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation was established in 1972 and its main goal was to award grants for hands on research and to practice initiatives. Their main objective is to make affordable basic healthcare obtainable to everyone.
This is the nation’s largest charitable agency that is focused directly to the health care issues. This foundation helps many public agencies such as, universities and public charities that may fall under tax exempt sec. 501 © (3) of the internal revenue code. This scholarship helps young physicians study on non clinical topics such as management, economics and other areas. This was put into place because it was felt that if the physicians were able to do these different things it would make them better rounded and they would be able to deliver better health care in the their specific field. There are other grants as well. Such as, the Technical assistance and direction for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Local Funding Partnerships program, CUMAC/ECHO: NJHI-Enhancing Community Agency’s Capacity, and many more just like these two.
The types of projects that RWJF would fund are:
• Service demonstrations
• Gathering and monitoring of health-related statistics
• Public education
• Training and fellowship programs
• Policy analysis
• Health services research
• Technical assistance
• Communications activities
• Evaluations
Some of the locations, organizations, projects and activities that they do not support are:
• End of life care
• Long term care
• Specific chronic conditions that are not part of the strategies of other program areas
• Physical activity for adults age 50 or older
