Flash Mob Robberies
Americans, despite their religion, race, ethnicity, or gender, never gave much thought to the terms like “flash mob robberies” or “organized looting.” However, these expressions have become acknowledge to the American society due to their criminal nature and the alarming frequency in which they take place. Historically, a flash mob was clearly an assembly of people who unexpectedly appeared at the same location at the same time. Now, flash mobs began to incorporate robberies, but they occurred infrequently across the country.

These elements have made it where flash mobs are able and unafraid to commit these robberies in daylight and despite the additional security cameras.
For example, in the city of Chicago there has been many number of witnessed reports incidents involving flash mob robberies. One incident occurred on June 4, 2011. A flash mob tossed a baseball at an adult’s male’s head with such force, his motor scooter helmet was knocked off. The flash mob consisted of 15-20 members, proceeded to drag the victim into the streets. Another stunning incident happened on June 9, 2011, when Jesse Andersen, the 36-year old brother of Smashing Pumpkins Billy Corgan, was punched in the face as multiple suspects took his iPad and. Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy he said, “we can’t tolerate this stuff….we’re not going to let it go”. Chicago Superintendent Garry McCarthy is promising to hunt down flash mob suspects. As of this present moment, the rise of mob robberies in the city of Chicago has alert many law enforcement officers to track down robbery suspects. This is a great example of how these incidents occurring in the city of Chicago are going completely out of control.
How well to battle the advantage of social media crimes becomes a main issue of political debate among authority officials, appointment government officials, and civil rights activists. Civil rights group address the question on how law enforcements should discover evidence or information into social media sites, such as Facebook or Twitter. Browsing Facebook pages or “tweets” that are available to the public viewers is commonly acceptable, however, violating personal information without an issue warrant or shutting down cell phone service in anticipation of crime commits an offense on constitutional rights. Therefore, local law enforcements, across the country, will be engaged as they find for long term solutions to this new formation of crime without committing a violation on civil rights and privacy.
