Final Project Case Study

1217 words - 5 pages

1. What are the causes of stress in Michael’s or Jennifer’s life? How is stress affecting Michael’s or Jennifer’s health?
Jennifer has a lot of factors that are figured in to the stress in her life. Losing a baby can be very stressful and the loss of a parent can be just as stressful. Then there is her in-laws on here about trying for a baby again there is a lot of pressure and added stress from that as well. Always having to have everything just so and it order at work and trying to keep everyone happy has to were on a person. Then there is her father that needs medical watch around the clock and refuses to go to a nursing home so now she has to worry if he is ok when she is not around to ...view middle of the document...

One thing that she can do is sit down with the in-laws and express to them how there pressure about her trying to conceive another baby is really weighing on her. Explain that she wants a baby just as bad as they do but the added pressure is not helping her any. Then she should focus a little more time on herself and not worry so much about making everyone else happy. As for her father she should try maybe a hospice care or independent living where someone is with them at all times when needed. Instead of working so hard at work all the time maybe she just needs a vacation for her and her husband like a second honey moon at a relaxing retreat with no way to get a hold of get to know herself again. After all that she should feel refreshed and start to feel like she is good enough to face any challenge head on and concur it.

4. What defensive coping methods are Michael or Jennifer using? What active coping methods might be healthier for Michael or Jennifer to use? Explain why you would recommend these methods.
Jennifer is going to the doctor which is a good idea but it seems that she may be going to the wrong types of doctor. It seems to me that the doctor she is seeing is not looking at al aspects of her life and all the stress that she has in it. One type of doctor that she may think about seeing is a psychiatrist. Dealing with some of the stress and eliminating it may be one of the healthier ways to deal with the bigger issue of the depression that she is headed for. A little rest and relaxation would not hurt either. Something that may help is just a weekend get away with no way to be reached. The reason I suggest these methods is I have experienced some of the same things in my own life. One of the things that helped me was just dealing with and eliminating some of the stress in my life.

5. Select one theory of personality and use this theory to tell Michael or Jennifer how this theory explains his or her situation.
It seems that you have Situational attribution which by definition tells us that the behavior and pain you are feeling is...
