With obesity rates being 35.7% in adults and 17% in children with in the United States (Overweight and Obesity, 2011), attention needs to be focused on what overweight and obese people should do to start losing weight. There are several ways to start losing weight. One is with diet pills or dietary supplements. Another is with a healthy diet and keeping track of the amount of calories to intake a day. While a healthy diet and diet pills are similar in terms of their components, they differ regarding the speed and the effectiveness of weight loss.

Exercising is a key component to lose weight with diet pills and with a healthy diet. If someone is incorporating exercise into his weight loss program it is suggested to get at least ten consecutive minutes in every day, but recommend getting 30 minutes of exercise in daily . It does not matter if he does ten minutes , three different times a day as long as he gets a total of 30 minutes ("Physical Activity For Everyone", 2011 ).
The speed of weight loss for diet pills and a healthy diet are different because with diet pills a person can lose the weight faster than with a healthy diet. One diet pill clams a person that needs to lose weight can lose 15 pounds in just one month. That is about 3.75 pounds a week. Looking at the different weight loss pills it seems that a person can lose any where from 2.5 pounds up to 4 pounds a week ("Diet Pills That Work", 2011). While eating a healthy diet an average person can lose any where from one pound to two pounds a week (Coleman, 2011). However , with diet pills it can take some time for the results to start showing. This is because most diet pills takes time for the pills to start working and because they are an appetite suppressant that blocks the re-uptake of the chemicals serotonin and norepinephrine. This will make a person feel full so they will eat less. They also increase metabolism, slow fat production, and block fat from being absorbed (Watson, 2012). A healthy diet does not cause for anything to start working. Once a person that wants to lose weight and starts eating the right foods on a regular basis , his pounds will start dropping as long as he cuts 500 to 1,000 calories from his diet every day (Coleman, 2011). Along with eating the healthy foods, the person needs to watch how much of the healthy foods he will be eating. Portion control is everything with a healthy diet. Eating more than the recommended diet will cause over eating. Reading the nutrition labels is part of eating a healthy diet. American’s underestimate how many calories they intake by 25%. Measuring out the foods that will be consumed will help on portion control ("Healthy Eating & Diet", 2005-2012).
While changing to a healthy diet is a lifestyle change, the use of diet pills is a temporary fix to shed some pounds. If someone that had gone from eating out all the time and eating junk food on a daily basis to eating healthy and stuck with it, but decides he really wanted those couple slices of pepperoni pizza and a slice of yellow cake with chocolate icing , he would not be doing himself any harm with it. He would know that come the next day it will be back to the healthy diet. He would not put on any weight from that one day ("Healthy Eating & Diet ",...
