There is a battle going on in America that does not seem to be going away; obesity. In a time where society is shouting out “looks are everything!” this problem, you would think, would cease to exist; yet it does. There are countless ways to lose weight, but the following approaches are at the top of the list: exercising or absorbing diet pills. Exercising and eating healthy are the best ways to lose weight, although, some people take the easy way and consume pills. Diet pills are attractive. Whether wanting to shed 10 pounds for a family vacation or high school reunion, results are more than likely to appear. As great as that sounds, side effects are also likely to appear. Diet pills offer many changes that simply exercising cannot. The outcome of each product varies from person to person, but for the most part, the main idea is to suppress the appetite. There is no need to change the food eaten to help regulate metabolism, which can be costly. Organic foods, fruits, vegetables, can all be expensive if not within an individual’s living budget.
People who exercise regularly are less likely to take on bad habits such as smoking or over eating. The heart is the greatest beneficiary in daily exercising. The heart is the most important muscle in the body. When exercising the body, you are exercising your heart. The stronger the heart is, the easier its job is; you wouldn’t want your heart to be overworked and quit, right? The outcome of exercise isn’t only physical. People should be psychosocially healthy. To maintain psychosocial health, you must have strength in every dimension of health. These dimensions are mental, emotional, social, and spiritual. Unlike measuring your weight for your physical health, how do you measure the other dimensions of health? Ask yourself if you fit these descriptions; do you feel good about yourself? Do you feel comfortable with other people? Do you meet the demands in life? Do you control stress and anxiety rationally? Maintain a positive outlook? Are you open towards diversity? Do you appreciate and respect nature? Our bodies require a continuous amount of exercise physically and mentally.
Diet pills have many effects; more negative than positive. Unlike exercising, which can be performed every day, diet pills are only meant to be taken for a short period of time. Like with any medication, our bodies become immune to these substances and the medicine no longer works. There is an array of pills that are offered and they all come with effects. Cramping, diarrhea, gas, headache, dry mouth, and constipation are just a few. If these effects aren’t bad enough, some have an increased risk of irregular heartbeat or heart attack.
